CREATIVE STORYTELLING FOR EVERYONE
Spiral Q facilitates creative experiences that amplify the stories of people of all ages. From the giant puppet that comes alive in the streets to the cereal box that becomes a character in your own kitchen, we know that everything has a story, and all those stories deserve to be told! All programs are informative, hands-on, interactive, and can be tailored toward your desired age range.

SPIRAL Q TOURS AT ART ON THE AVE.
Our puppet collection is a living document of 20 years of personal and collective stories of struggle, identity, and justice in Philadelphia. Participants learn about Spiral Q’s history, talk about why and how to make puppets, and get close-up looks at plenty of puppets from our collection currently on display at our gallery!
SHADOWS, SILHOUETTES, AND SHAPES
Participants get to watch a short shadow puppet show, then make simple puppets of characters and story elements. We’ll all perform a shadow puppet show, and everyone can take home their own puppet and the knowledge of how to make a shadow show!
CRANKIES AND COLLAGE
We will introduce your group to the age old folk art of crankies, which are two dimensional scrolling puppet shows. Then participants will create and perform a group crankie show!
MASKS AND MAKEUP
Using recycled and reused materials, participants make masks that connect to relevant stories or subjects that they are studying – or Spiral Q themes of identity, justice, protest, and celebration.
