BIKING JACKSON, MS to NEW ORLEANS, LA FOR SPIRAL Q!

Former Spiral Q apprentice (Temple ’09) Robin Hernandez is taking to the road to raise money for Spiral Q. Her goal is to leverage a long distance bike ride from Jackson, Mississippi to New Orleans, Louisiana to raise $2500 for Spiral Q’s work. Already over 50% of the way to her goal, we are so inspired and touched by her project and want to share it with you!
Says Robin, “This trip took shape last November, when I realized the impending doom of the new administration; the ride has since become a fundraiser, because in addition to civil liberties being threatened, funding for non-profit art groups is uncertain. I’ve found that bike rides grant access to communities, spark conversation, and reveal an underlying humanity.  And as a white person in this country, it means I have additional access to spaces- it is a sad reality.  My hope by taking this campaign to the road is to make connections and build support for important, creative work being done to counter the marginalization of people.  So many rights are in danger, and to counter that threat, greater compassion and understanding is needed across communities.”

We’ll be checking in with Robin on our social media during her ride, but right now you can check out her campaign here. If you’d like to start your own mini-campaign for the Q we’d love to have you! Email any questions to Liza at lizago@spiralq.org.
