Tanaya is a multidisciplinary movement and teaching artist residing in Philadelphia. She is inspired by resilience, and the ways people find freedom in their day to day lives. She studied performance at Drake University and has continued her studies at Wise Fool New Mexico, Dance & Performance Institute, Trinidad & Tobago, and Pig Iron. Her work has been featured in Dance USA’s “Passport Travel Through Resistance”, SUPERObject’s “Birth”, and Black Quantum Futurist’s “Black Bodies as Conductors of Gravity”. She is currently developing “bittersweet”, a movement piece exploring how healing, resistance and nostalgia manifest in traditional carnival masquerade. (portfolio and more info at:
