Laura Beery is a sophomore at Temple University, majoring in Public Health and minoring in Spanish. Laura was initially drawn to Spiral Q because of her love for parades and celebrations that include people from all ages walks of life. Since joining the organization, she has been able to design props and help with the organization of parades and protests. Laura especially loves parades that incorporate children. She believes that getting kids involved in activism at an early age will encourage them to participate in their communities throughout their lives. Her favorite parade has been the march advocating for safer access to Franklin Square Park.
She is most interested in neighborhood development and giving voice to underrepresented communities within Philadelphia, and hopefully someday, around the world. Already having three continents under her belt, Laura hopes to visit all seven before she reaches thirty years old. She aims to one day work in international development at a not-for-profit association.
Spiral Q has taught her that one person, and a lot of organization, can impact a whole city. Laura has also realized that our similarities vastly overwhelm our differences and that when we band together, there will be change for the benefit of all.
