The Living Loft: A Giant Puppet Museum

Neighborhood Parades and Pageants are the very heart of Spiral Q's work. These projects are collaborations with community-based organizations focusing puppet-making themes on neighborhood concerns and dreams.

Spiral Q sends talented artists throughout the year into at least a dozen Philadelphia neighborhoods, most of them neglected, to work with as many as 500 children, youth, parents, and elders in each neighborhood as a part of the Parade and Pageant Program. Together, Spiral Q and its neighborhood partners envision, plan and build the necessary artwork and puppets for the community's parade or pageant.

With Spiral Q's guidance and assistance, neighborhood participants assume responsibilities and positions of leadership which include creating partnerships with municipal leaders and local organizations, conducting neighborhood outreach for parades, scheduling open studio times, and community organizing. Organizations involved in Neighborhood Parades and Pageants are the core participants for Peoplehood, our year-end, all-city parade and pageant.

Visit the Spiral Q Photo Gallery to see some photos from parades and pageants from years past!
