Spiral Q’s Living Loft Puppet Museum documents the role of populist art forms in social change movements and community organizing locally, nationally, and internationally. Home to over 2,000 puppets, artifacts, and ephemera created in Philadelphia since our inception, Spiral Q’s permanent collection records the often-overlooked stories of local community efforts to tell their own stories and advance their own priorities. In addition to a permanent exhibition at Spiral Q’s headquarters and temporary installations or exhibitions at host sites, the museum supports ongoing community outreach education at area libraries, childcare providers, and community events. Tour the Museum Open by appointment only. Spiral Q’s Living Loft is like no other place in Philadelphia. Come visit or bring a group of up to 25 people and experience the magic of our living, evolving collection of hundreds of puppets, from small to GIANORMOUS! Your group’s visit begins with an introduction to our collection and ends with hands-on puppet interactions in our studios.
Cost: Suggested contribution for individuals is $5-$10. Please call day of to make sure that we can receive you. Groups are especially welcome! Just call ahead to make your reservation and secure your payment. Group tours are guided, educational experiences that culminate with a performance or art making activity. You will love it.
Meet the Puppets and Puppeteers: The Living Loft Traveling Tour! If your group is too large for us to accommodate at our Spring Garden studio or you just want us to come to you, Spiral Q will bring a van-full of beautiful puppets, stories and fun to you! Professional puppeteers run this interactive educational program by using some of our favorite puppets (from 3 inches to 13 feet tall) to introduce Spiral Q’s unique blend of creativity and self-expression. Are you ready to dance with our giant dragon puppet? This activity is perfect for up to 30 children ages 4-14, and those interested in arts and/or activism.
Cost: $350 for one hour.
Spiral Q Assembly Program Perfect for large groups, a Spiral Q Assembly program brings a boisterous pride of handmade puppets to the stage at your school assembly, summer camp gathering, or other event. This fun, interactive presentation teaches about how our puppets are made, helps audience members try them on, includes a mini-parade around your space, and introduces puppetry as an exciting, important tool for social change and creative expression. Ideal for spaces with A/V access, we are happy to tailor the program to your space and goals. Call for details! For up to 300 people.
Cost: $500 for one hour
Craftivity Table Make your own puppets and crafts! Spiral Q brings recycled and found materials and supplies and provide instruction for making take-home masks, puppets and crafts. Kids will never see their kitchen the same again! Good for day camps, birthday parties or even neighborhood events, the activity table can serves up to 50 participants. Whenever possible, Spiral Q will lead your group in a finale parade at the end.
Cost: $500 for two hours’ instruction and supplies.
GIANT Puppet Appearance Make your event unforgettable by including Spiral Q in your plans! Our hand-made parade puppets are a stunning visual draw and attract press, people and smiles. Perfect for a street fair, party, event or other large-scale celebration.

Storybook Hour Invite a Spiral Q artist to read our specially selected storybooks to your classroom, library group, or other children’s gathering. A perfect fit for children’s groups who are beginning to learn how to read. Ideal for 3-5 year-olds. Help connect the joy and wonder of puppets to your children’s developing love for reading!
Cost: $150 for an hour of educational entertainment.
