Spiral Q is looking for people interested in workstudy and unpaid internship opportunities for the 2007-2008 academic year and beyond! Come get first hand experience promoting art as a tool for social change. Special arrangements for academic credit for internships can sometimes be made.
PROGRAM ASSISTANT
Responsibilities:
• Lead communities to investigate social justice issues
• Create public art/tools for activism
• Provide ongoing support for dynamic non-profit
• Other responsibilities as needed

• Excellent research. communication, organization, problem-solving and collaborative skills
• Ability to work independently and think creatively
• Desire to work with, and sensitive to, diverse communities.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks and details in a fast paced environment.

Responsibilities:
• Coordinate special events
• Assist Executive Director in procuring revenue
• Support communication coordinator in website and database maintenance
• Other responsibilities as needed
Qualifications:
• Excellent research, written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and think creatively
• Desire to work with, and sensitive to, diverse communities
• Ability to handle multiple tasks and details in a fast paced environment.
• Familiarity with Macs and Filemaker Pro helpful.
MUSEUM ASSISTANT
Responsibilities:
• Maintain museum space and inventory of supplies
• Conduct museum tours and assist with workshops
• Arrange Museum and studio space for workshops, presentations, and performances
• Provide Museum outreach for off-site appearances and activities
• Work with staff, guest artists, and community members on creative projects.
• Other responsibilites as needed
Qualifications:
• Excellent public speaker
• Reliable, efficient and organized
• Capacity to recall and interpret information for an engaging tour
• Ability to adjust tour dialogue to be group appropriate (i.e. age or interest)
• An interest in museum studies preferred but not required
STUDIO ASSISTANT
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Maintain Studio space and inventory of supplies
• Assist teaching artists during studio workshops
• Arrange studio space for workshops, presentations, and performances
• Work with staff, guest artists, and community members on creative projects
• Other responsibilities as needed
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Comfort using power tools and handsaws
• Strong organizational skills
• A valid driver's license
• Interest in exploring alternative approaches to 3D form, textiles, theater, or printmaking.

TEACHING ARTISTS
Please note: While Spiral Q is accepting applications for Teaching Artists, our slots are currently filled. We are still accepting resumés for future hires, but as of late October 2007, we will not be able to immediately place anyone new in this position.
Job Description:
Spiral Q has teaching opportunities for innovative, creative, qualified teaching artists with an interest in social change to support programming through our Education Initiatives. Spiral Q works with communities to illustrate their successes and frustrations through public art, including parades and pageants. Qualified artists will have experience in any of the following areas: paper mache, puppet construction, printmaking, theater direction, playwriting, performance, percussion, instrument making, music instruction, stilt walking, sculpture, painting, dance, and choreography. Interest in exploring the intersection of arts and activism is necessary. Experience working in community based settings and bi-lingual a plus!
Responsibilities:
work with Spiral Q Education staff, residency site coordinator/teachers to design arts & activism education curricula that reflect collaboration and meets the needs of participants
develop age & contextually appropriate lesson plans, maintain attendance sheets, support program evaluation, and attend all required meetings and training sessions
provide arts instruction in a range of settings from classroom to community centers to participants of varying ages and backgrounds including those with disabilities and English as a second language
deliver 1-3 hour lessons that include facilitating discussions and hands-on art instruction
prepare materials, coordinate and obtain supplies for workshops
manage the set-up, implementation, & clean-up of workshops
provide support to Spiral Q events & performances and manage activity tables at neighborhood events
other responsibilities as needed
Qualifications:
Demonstrate an ability to engage, challenge and interest people through the arts
Able to create safe, inclusive, supportive and creative environments for children, youth, adults, and volunteers
Desire to experiment with new techniques and capacity to adapt them and teach them to others
Desire to work with diverse populations (i.e. age, gender, class, sexual orientation, ethnicity, etc.)
Strong interest in activism
Capable of performing in busy non-traditional classroom setting
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail with a proven ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities, plan ahead, anticipate and articulate program needs, and work independently
Ability to problem-solve, be flexible, imaginative--with a sense of humor
Must provide own transportation (bike, car, public -competently able to navigate public transportation)
Valid driver's license or fluency in a second language help but are not required
COMPENSATION:
Salary is competitive, based on experience. This is a part-time position. There are various opportunities available on a project basis.
