History

Spiral Q was founded in 1996 out of celebratory street theater advocacy efforts and has developed into a locally and nationally acclaimed organization whose work is known for its capacity to engage communities in creative dialogue surrounding critical issues of social significance. Founder Matthew “Mattyboy” Hart created Spiral Q as a support for advocacy efforts for people living with HIV/AIDS. In Spiral Q’s first year artists worked with youth at Pentridge Community Garden, Taller Puertorriqueño, and at the Attic Youth Center providing the puppetry workshops that would become its hallmark.
