Animated Architecture @ Spiral Q Second Friday
Friday, October 13, 2017 • 5-8PM

Art on the Avenue • 3808 Lancaster Ave. Philadelphia, PA, 19104

This Design Philadelphia open house is a part of the “West Philly Design Crawl.” Explore design and art businesses all around the neighborhood from 4-7pm on October 11th.

Animated Architecture screens video art projections at Spiral Q gallery at Art on the Avenue and previews a virtual / augmented reality art app. Spiral Q presents on their community art programs and upcoming Peoplehood parade / pageant and other public events.

Video art will also be on display on Saturday, October 7 during Lancaster Avenue Day Festival and on October 13 6-8pm for Second Friday on Lancaster Ave. The installation will be open at other times in October by appointment.

The video and digital art installation is curated by Sean Stoops as part of “Animated Architecture: 3D Video Projections on Historic Philadelphia Sites,” a series of site-specific outdoor/indoor video art events, usually held at night and screened at various Philadelphia buildings. In April 2012, Stoops was named as one of thirty-five art project award winners to receive grants that year from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, as part of its Knight Arts Challenge, which funds innovative projects that engage and enrich Philadelphia’s communities. Stoops, an independent curator and new media artist, currently serves on Spiral Q’s Board of Directors.

The video installation will feature a selection of past Animated Architecture projects. Also highlighted will be videos and digital art by Marjan Moghaddam- a New York based artist, animator, and educator. Moghaddam uses “motion capture” of improvised performance applied to her signature 3D computer generated “digital bodies,” representing a new style of figuration in the 21st century. Samples of Moghaddam’s Instagram #ArtHack series, utilizing augmented and virtual reality technology, will also be displayed.
