HAINT is an exhibit of works on paper by Sherman Fleming. The word HAINT is a southern
vernacular term meaning spirit or ghost. HAINT draws on that definition in the production of a
series of works on paper which are created by the combined use of graphite and eraser as
marking tools. The final product reveals ethereal qualities as well as indelible remnants the
process of drawing and withdrawing seek to achieve.
Sherman Fleming earned his MFA from Hartford Art School and BFA Virginia Commonwealth
University. He has exhibited and performed widely including Pretoria, S.A., Cairo, Egypt as well
as Houston, TX and Philadelphia, PA. Mr. Fleming is currently artist-in-residence at Rush Arts
Philly.
