The 2020 PEOPLEHOOD ART FOR ACTIONS PIPELINE Has Begun!

Spiral Q is working on third year of our Art for Actions Pipeline: a partnership that seeks to build energy, beauty, visibility, and membership in justice movements. The union of Spiral Q’s two longest-running programs – the Art for Actions Pipeline centers the specific communities and issues of partner activist groups in our Peoplehood process of collaborative art-making, story sharing, and strategizing. We are excited to announce our primary activist partners for the year – we will be creating artwork for their actions in community art builds this Fall and continue the project with artistically representing their stories and a wider community story of the moment (a role our Peoplehood Pageant seeks to fill each year) this Spring.

Juntos:

Juntos is a community-led, Latinx immigrant organization in South Philadelphia fighting for our human rights as workers, parents, youth, and immigrants. We believe that every human being has the right to a quality education and the freedom to live with dignity regardless of immigration status.

Occupy PHA:

Fighting Gentrification and Housing Injustice through holding PHA accountable and also fighting for the disbandment of PHA Police.

Dignity Act Now Collective:

“Our voice, Our movement, Our power.”

We show up as experts of our own experiences utilizing the arts to create, promote and instigate systemic change. We show up as a force for transformational change that empowers  us to aspire to our highest selves. For the collective for oppressed people for formerly incarcerated Black and Brown Womxn and non-binary people.

The Peoplehood Art for Action Pipeline centers the campaigns of our partner activist groups (see above) to create artwork and creative action that builds energy, increases visibility and elevates their demands and messaging. In most years this culminates in the Peoplehood Parade and Pageant – this year this work is focused on their campaign needs this Fall.

Art Builds are held at Spiral Q’s warehouse at 4100 Haverford Avenue.  All skill and experience levels welcome – this work is messy, collaborative, and beautiful. You can drop in once and take on a session of painting, cutting, building, or paper maché – or you can come as much as you want and take leadership of a small project. Builds are on Saturdays and Sundays from 1-5, email community@spiralq.org if you want to get on the list for info about dates and times of art builds
